ISLIP
In November 1645 a committee of Lords and Commons was set up to
administer the lands and revenues of the 'delinquent' Dean and Chapter of
Westminster.2 In. April 1649 the lands and revenues of all deans and
chapters were vested in a body of trustees appointed by the Commons.3
Islip came under the provisions of both these acts. In September 1649,
however, the manor was exempted from the operation of the latter act and
assigned to the maintenance of Westminster School.4 In December 1650
the manor was sold to Colonel Fielder and John Staunton for £4,736 5s.
2d.5 In 1660 it was restored to the Dean and Chapter of Westminster,
now reinstated. It remained in their hands until 1869, when ownership was
transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners.6
